In Gaza, I was a university lecturer in psychology for 20 years and a director of a charity supporting mothers and children. I have 5 children: 2 daughters who still live in Gaza, a son and daughter in Canada and a son in London.As a young woman, I lived in Libya. I married there, brought up my children and achieved my degree and my Masters. Libya’s sky seemed open to my dreams and I was very happy there.When I first arrived in the UK, I had nothing here and felt lonely and ashamed. I am thankful to have become part of the Migrateful family. Migrateful has helped me feel more positive and I am happy to share my food and my culture.When I cook I always think of my mother. I don’t use recipes but cook by a sense I inherited from her. My mother and father always talked about their life before Gaza – I have never been to their home in Ashdod but I feel I know it. My father caught fish, and they always had fresh vegetables from the countryside. I am passionate about making healthy and nutritious food. It is so important for our lives and our physical and mental health.
